darren lee (dee) miller develops creative projects that strengthen relationships among people, places, and institutions. Guided by the question, How can creative practice cultivate stronger relationships among people, institutions, and the places they share?, miller works across photography, social practice, exhibitions, writing, and public programming to create participatory experiences that expand access to the arts, foster civic engagement, and inspire collective stewardship.
Over more than twenty-five years, miller has developed exhibitions, educational initiatives, and community partnerships with museums, colleges, neighborhood organizations, and cultural nonprofits throughout the United States and abroad. Leadership has included academic departments, art galleries, and multidisciplinary arts organizations, bringing together scholarship, strategic planning, fundraising, and public engagement to advance institutional missions. Creative and curatorial work has been presented in more than fifty national and international exhibitions, while writing has appeared in exhibition catalogues, books, and other publications. A Fulbright Research Fellowship supported collaborative research and teaching in Brazil, and curatorial publications are held in the collections of the Metropolitan Museum of Art's Thomas J. Watson Library.
Recent projects extend a long-standing socially engaged practice into creative placemaking and environmental stewardship. Through Urban Foodscaping at Fiddlehead Farm, miller explores how creativity, food, and ecology can transform everyday landscapes into places for learning, conversation, and collective care. Across every role, creative practice serves as a means of cultivating curiosity, strengthening communities, and imagining more resilient civic futures.
